Full-time staff position

The successful applicant will be responsible for an advocacy and education campaign to protect Clayoquot Sound’s marine and temperate rainforest environment from threats posed by industrial activities (primarily open net-cage salmon farming and forestry). He/she will work independently and within a larger alliance of NGOs on a coordinated campaign, with a focus on public education, shifting markets to sustainable alternatives and community outreach in Clayoquot Sound and internationally.
The position requires a dynamic individual with excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds. The job requires the discipline to work independently within a small organization and with coalition allies in other regions. A strong understanding of aquaculture, forestry, or other related environmental fields is required. A university degree in environment, conservation, ecology, or related field, or equivalent experience, would be an asset.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, creative, resourceful and a strategic thinker. Experience working with First Nations is an asset. Dedication to creating positive cultural change that honours the earth is a must!
The following is a list of desired qualifications:
- excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- proven media communication skills (interviews, media releases, cultivating media relationships, etc.)
- campaign development and/or strategic planning experience
- proven grassroots organizing and public education skills
- computer literacy (word processing, email, Internet)
- effective time management
- credible personal style/presentation
- commitment to working with First Nations
- understanding of marine or fisheries science, and/or forest ecology
- understanding of Clayoquot Sound communities
- knowledge of government agencies pertinent to the position
- marine experience and/or boating skills
The position is based in Tofino.
The successful applicant will be responsible to an Advisory Committee and to the Board of Directors. This is a full-time, salaried position. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit for a minimum of two years.
