Description:
This theme session will focus on the theories and applications of Collaborative GIS for spatial data analysis, modelling, visualization and decision-making. Collaborative GIS is interpreted broadly to mean the integration of GIS technologies, collaboration methods, and representative stakeholder groups to facilitate various configurations of place-time interactions.
Some key issues that inspire and foster Collaborative GIS research are:
- designing spatial data analysis and modelling tools for collaborative settings,
- knowledge acquisition and representation across spatial and social
scales, - achieving consensus solutions,
- standardizing data and processes,
- combining local and scientific knowledge,
- end-user visualization,
- information and communication technologies for improved planning, and
- transforming science for use in decision-making and policy.
Group-oriented or multi-participant Planning Support Systems, Spatial Decision Support Systems, Community Indicators Monitoring Systems, and Landscape Visualization Systems are some specific implementations of Collaborative GIS. The theme session will bring together practitioners and researchers with a view to unifying Collaborative GIS research efforts in the targeted areas of spatial data analysis, modelling, visualization and decision-making. We look forward to receiving your submissions on these and other aspects of Collaborative GIS research and applications.
