Summary—Ducks Unlimited Canada’s (DUC) Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research is seeking Research Crew Leaders and Technicians to work on waterfowl nesting studies in Alberta and Saskatchewan beginning in February and April 2007. These positions are expected to be three to six month terms, however, there is the possibility of extension for some positions through the fall and winter at DUC’s head office located at Oak Hammock Marsh near Stonewall, Manitoba.
Research staff responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, searching for waterfowl nests, waterfowl pair and brood surveys, wetland inventories, habitat mapping and data management. Candidates must be able to perform rigorous fieldwork, cope with poor weather and live in rural locations. A degree, diploma, completed coursework or relevant work experience in biology, ecology, zoology or a related field is required.
RESEARCH CREW LEADER (five positions) Positions will begin February 1, 2007 at DUC’s head office, where research crew leaders will assist with field season preparations. In the field, crew leaders will be required to supervise a crew of up to six technicians. Familiarity with field research techniques, data collection procedures and computer literacy is required. Proven leadership, excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as previous experience with waterfowl research is necessary. The gross salary for this position is $2,500 CDN/month and accommodation will be provided in the field. The deadline for applications is January 2, 2007.
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN (30 positions) Positions will begin in April 2007. Candidates with a combination of research, waterfowl, or wetland experience will be given preference. The gross salary for this position is $2,200 CDN/month and accommodation will be provided in the field. Deadline for applications is January 31, 2007.
