Via Scrapped:
We had some pretty awesome entries last year. Good to see what the user’s out there are doing. We have the same thing happening this year as part of our conference.
Here are the details:
Aim
To recognize those who are using GIS to benefit the organization deploying it. This is not a poster competition but a search for those that have harnessed GIS technology to advantage. You may submit any poster that shows evidence of this benefit.
Submissions: We ask that only maps/posters be submitted.
Entry
All New Zealand users of ESRI software are eligible to enter. However you must attend the conference to be eligible to submit an entry. You may only enter each map/poster once – any entries displayed last year, for example, are not eligible.
Number of entries: No limit on the number of entries by individual, team or organization.
Fees
Completely free.
N.B. Please advise if you wish your work to be returned.
Prizes
One return air ticket to the San Diego Conference. (We trust that the winner will be able to get funding for their own accommodation and other expenses). The recipient will be the organization rather than the winning individual.
We will need from you
1. A demonstration of benefit’ piece of work (map, chart, report, – please check with us if in doubt as your submission is something highly original and on the cutting edge of innovation).
2. A piece of text that describe two things: – explains the nature of the work undertaken, and (in measurable terms if possible) the benefits gained by this work (improved service, greater efficiency, a saved cost, something that simply couldn’t be done before etc). Two paragraphs is ideal, more or less is still fine.
3. The authors name, Job Title and organization. Please also tell us the type of printer/plotter/data format used as this is a unique opportunity for us all to compare how the various makes and models shape up.
Closing date: We need to receive your entries as soon as possible to allow us time to laminate and mount all the work. The final date is 16th October 2006. Late entries will be at the discretion of Eagle (bribes are welcome!!).
Judging and Criteria
This year’s judges are yet to be confirmed. However, they will be independent, impartial and knowledgeable in GIS matters. Their decision is final. The judges will select five pieces of work that show the most significant benefit in proportion to the cost of achieving it. Eagle Technology will provide the judges with information relating to the GIS investment of each organization and if appropriate, estimated costs of achieving the benefit identified. Out of the five finalists the best map/ poster will be chosen.
We all benefit by the sharing of good ideas, and last years submissions showed the great variety of work being undertaken around the country. In sending in your entries you not only enter the competition, but will also contribute to a sharing of ideas which helps the whole GIS user community onto greater success.
We look forward to receiving your submissions, and good luck to you all.
Please send your entries or any queries you may have to myself:
