Background –
In the Spring of 2005, leaders from the First Nations Summit, the BC Assembly of First Nations, the Union of BC Indian Chiefs and the Province of BC jointly agreed to a new relationship. The New Relationship document outlines a shared vision for BC’s First Nations people, one “based on respect, recognition, and accommodation of aboriginal title and rights.”
The New Relationship Trust Corporation was created in early 2006. Legislation was passed, and a fund containing $100 million was set aside in trust. The Trust was assigned a seven member Board of Directors, with representation from each of the three First Nations organizations, as well as from the Province. One task of the first Directors is to develop a practical Strategic Plan for administering the Trust. This will be done in a way that helps First Nations develop the capacity to participate in the new relationship envisioned one year ago. The fund will work toward carrying out the activities of that strategic plan.

Regional Meetings are open to all members of the public. Check this page often for scheduling updates.
