Tsleil-Waututh Nation & BC Parks Celebrate Co-Management Milestone


TSLEIL-WAUTUTH TRADITIONAL TERRITORY, BC, Sept. 5 /CNW/ -On September 12, 2006, Chief Leah George-Wilson of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation will officially present the Say Nuth Khaw Yum Heritage Park/Indian Arm Provincial Park Bioregional Inventory Atlas to BC Parks in a ceremony held at the Tsleil-Waututh Community Centre in North Vancouver. Invitees include community members and representatives from federal, provincial and municipal governments.

The Park Co-management Agreement was signed in 1998 by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and the BC Government. Ernie George and Richard George, Tsleil-Waututh elders and members of the Park Co-Management Board note, "This is a celebration of a major milestone in the long partnership between Tsleil-Waututh and BC Parks."

Chief George-Wilson adds, "The strength of our (Tsleil-Waututh and BCParks) partnership will help ensure that Say Nuth Khaw Yum is protected and conserved for the benefit of all peoples. Together we can make certain that the Park will thrive for our children and our children’s children."

The ceremony marks the completion of phase one in the development of the Park Management Plan. A public information session is scheduled for September 28.
