GIAC/GeoConnections Stakeholder Engagement Workshops
The Geomatics Industry Association of Canada (GIAC) is pleased to announce the upcoming dates for a series of stakeholder engagement workshops undertaken in partnership with GeoConnections. The purpose of these workshops is to bring together users and suppliers of geospatial information, and to explore new avenues for using such information to improve decision making and business and government operations. GeoConnections is a national partnership initiative to build a fundamental data infrastructure called the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI), which provides Internet services to significantly improve discovery, sharing, and use of available geospatial information. As a workshop participant, you will benefit by learning how geospatial information is already being used effectively, and how to access available funding to develop applications in your own organization.
Why should you attend?
- To learn about the implementation plans and opportunities for project funding support under the GeoConnections program, which is partnering with $60 million in federal funding between 2005 and 2010;
- To update your knowledge on the current and planned future deployment of geospatial information in the government and business sectors;
- To participate in a lively exchange of ideas on creating new projects to use geospatial information technologies to support policy development and solve business problems through innovative partnering models;
- To network with other geomatics industry and user community professionals in your area; and
- To share your knowledge and have your voice heard!
GIAC Web Cast Series
A series of web casts also is being held. The primary purpose of this series is to keep the geomatics industry up to date with developments in the GeoConnections program, including upcoming requests for proposals (RFPs) and announcements of opportunity (AOs). There will be two (2) web casts per quarter. Each quarter, Craig Stewart, A/Director of GeoConnections, will provide an update on overall program plans and directions, and one of the Program Advisors (public safety, public health, environment and sustainable development, or Aboriginal matters) will describe what is happening in their focus area.
