The Treaty 8 Tribal Association is seeking a GIS Advisor for a Contract Position.

Description of Responsibilities:
- Aid in the storage and mapping of traditional use information;
- Consolidate information from traditional use and knowledge, oral history, archaeological reports, trapper knowledge, elders and environmental monitors for planning purposes;
- Ensure compatibility with government and industry databases in order to improve First Nations’ ability to exchange information with government and industry;
- Expedite the referral and permitting process through ongoing training and support for Treaty 8 First Nation Land Use offices;
- Facilitate better information exchange amongst industry, government and Treaty 8 First Nations;
- Provide participation in joint planning and management activities involving government agencies and Treaty 8 First Nations;
- Maintain a Geographical Information System using data from diverse government agencies and industry;
- Liaise with the GIS Technicians at the Oil & Gas Commission & other Government Ministries;
- Provide written and oral progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in GIS and a Bachelors of Science Degree with five years experience or a Master of Science Degree and two years experience;
- Extensive experience with ESRI ArcGIS software, GIS hardware, web-based mapping technologies, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Office applications;
- A thorough understanding of computer information databases;
- Experience working closely with First Nation communities (would be an asset);
- Proven organization, communication and administrative skills;
- Familiarity with provincial natural resource tenure referral processes;
- Experience in land use planning and resource management.
