The Amazon Conservation Team is based on a simple concept: by helpingthe rainforest peoples manage and protect their cultures, we can alsohelp them manage and protect the forest ecosystems that surround andsustain them.
We believe the fates of indigenous peoples (like the Tirio of southernSuriname and the Ingano of southern Colombia) and of the rainforests onwhich they depend are profoundly intertwined. And just as thedestruction of the rainforest would mean the destruction of theseindigenous peoples, the survival of the their traditional cultures canmean salvation for the rainforests of the Amazon and other parts oftropical America.
